Synopsis
Blurred traffic lights come into focus as Professor Walter Zarrow (Sam Waterston) makes his way into a bodega late one evening in New York City. Seemingly ordinary from a distance, this city scene precedes a brutal assault that sets ANESTHESIA in motion. As the film unfolds, director Tim Blake Nelson widens his lens to reveal intersecting stories in the narrative with characters who are all, in their own ways, anesthetizing themselves to life’s struggles. A New York City story that pushes to the surface the many existential questions we ask ourselves as people of this modern world—ANESTHESIA is a reflection of our conscious decisions to be active or passive in the introspection of our own lives. Tim Blake Nelson not only writes, directs and produces the film, but stars alongside an impressive cast including Glenn Close, K Todd Freeman, Jessica Hecht, Gretchen Mol, Gloria Reuben, Kristen Stewart, Corey Stoll, Mickey Sumner, Yul Vazquez, Sam Waterston, and Michael K Williams.
