Synopsis
In Between is a first-of-its kind portrait of young women, Palestinian citizens of Israel, living and loving in Tel-Aviv. It captures their unbearable daily duality, caught between hometown tradition and big city abandon, and the price they must pay for a lifestyle that seems obvious to many: the freedom to work, party, fuck, and choose. A women’s story told by a woman for women, it revolves around three characters that form a single subjectivity, with a variety of faces and expressions.
Leila, 28, is a criminal lawyer from a Nazarene bourgeois secular Muslim family. She works during the day and at night she parties.
Salma, 29, is a DJ/musician. She is a Lesbian from a “liberal” Christian family in a small Northern-Galilean village.
Into the apartment moves Nour, 23, a religious Muslim girl from the Southern-Galilean town of Umm al-Fahm who is engaged to Wissam
Caught between the rock of sexism and the hard place of racism, they live neither here nor there, and go through a bittersweet journey wherein there’s no looking back, but the future is far from certain.
