Arnulfo Rubio, a young man from Sinaloa, is a fresh-faced, low-level operator in the gun smuggling
trade between the United States and Mexico. Things seem to be going well for Rubio. He acquires and transports small batches of guns with nomajor difficulty. But Rubio doesn’t know that Hank Harris, a veteran ATF agent who is part of the “Fast and Furious” initiative put forth by his agency, has been closely following his many gun shop and gun show purchases.
In spite of being cautious while following Rubio, a small misstep puts Harris’ life in danger. And Rubio,
desperate, puts the ATF agent in his truck and crosses the border to Mexico with him.
During their journey, Harris tries to connect with Rubio. But the young man resists. It’s only after Harris manages to save their lives at a narco checkpoint that Rubio slowly opens up. And the two men get to know each other.
Rubio decides to take this man to Culiacan, to his bosses, so he can work for them as an informant.
Harris’ attempts to dissuade him are in vain; Rubio has made up his mind. It is only when they arrive in Culiacan that Rubio realizes the seriousness of his mistake. Not only is he ordered to kill Harris-- he also realizes they’re going to get rid of him, too.
